Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities (ECRICC)

About the project

The Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities (ECRICC) project is a six- years project (2019-2025), that aims to enhance the resilience of the lives and livelihoods of the most vulnerable populations particularly women, in the coastal areas of India, to climate change and extreme events, using an ecosystem-centred and community-based approach. This project was approved by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board in 2018. The Executing Entity responsible for the overall project implementation is the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India (GoI).

The project is being implemented at the national level across India’s 13 coastal states and UTs, with field implementation in 24 landscapes covering 12 districts in three coastal states of India. The target three coastal project states are Odisha, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, whose coastal populations are vulnerable to extreme weather events and slow onset of climate change impacts. The project is implemented by the respective State Government’s (Responsible Parties) and in Odisha, it is the Department of Forest,  Environment and Climate Change, Government of Odisha. As the Accredited Entity, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is responsible for overall project assurance. UNDP is also the Senior Supplier and will provide the funds, facilities, services and other resources as required by the project. The seven landscapes targeted in the state of Odisha are Talasari (Balasore district), Chilika&Bahuda (Ganjam district), Bhitarkanika (Kendrapada district), Chilika& Mahanadi mouth (Puri district) and Devi mouth (Jagatsinghpur district).
